Carson Strong Strengths

  • Size
  • Arm strength
  • Navigates pocket

2022 NFL Draft Prospect Report Nevada Wolfpack Quarterback Carson StrongWhen just looking at Strong, you just think to yourself… self, that’s a NFL quarterback. He’s going to be one of the least mobile quarterbacks in this draft class, but he has the size to stand in the pocket. Seeing over his offensive lineman shouldn’t be an issue. Then you look at the arm strength. Carson has a cannon attached to his shoulder. There isn’t a throw on the field that he shouldn’t be able to make. I think he’ll show that off during the Senior Bowl and the NFL combine. Even thought he’s not as fleet of foot as others. Strong does a nice job of moving around in the pocket. I like that his first move is to typically step up, rather than bailing. It’s not a trait you seen a lot of anymore as quarterbacks are more and more athletic.

Carson Strong Weaknesses

  • Accuracy
  • Consistancy

2022 NFL Draft Prospect Report Nevada Wolfpack Quarterback Carson StrongSaying that accuracy is a weakness for someone that has a 70% completion rate seems weird. But I believe those stats are a bit padded based on the number of shorter throws. When you seem him go down the field it becomes more of an issue. As far as consistancy, I just wish he didn’t flash as much on some throws. One play he’ll rocket a beautiful pass 20 yards down the field. The next you’ll see him miss an easy five-yard route to someone over the middle with nobody around him. He did have a knee injury before the season, so that could have been playing a factor.

Draft Thoughts

When you look at Strong, you can easily see the traits that a NFL team would love to have. Especially the things you can teach like size and arm strength. It’s just those few inconsistancies that keep him from competing with the likes of  Kenny Pickett and Matt Corral. Instead, I have him closer to Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder as my #3 and 4 quarterbacks in this class. I have him with a second round grade personally. NFL Mock Draft Database has a similar ranking. Still, there’s a chance that Strong sneaks into the first round because quarterback is always a need.
