Max Mitchell Strengths

  • Active hands
  • Versatile

2022 NFL Draft Report Louisiana Rajin' Cajun Offensive Tackle Prospect Senior Bowl Max Mitchell ReportMitchell is an excellent prospect. He has all the size that you could ask for from a NFL offensive lineman. I really like how well he moves. Max has no issues pulling either left or right, or getting up to the second level. Sometimes he does get outran by the running back, but that’s to be expected. Another nice thing to see is how active he is with his hands. Out of all the lineman I’ve scouted for this year’s draft, I would say he’s is the most active with his hands. He doesn’t let defenders get into his body. Once he decides to lock up with a defender, his strength comes out and he stonewalls them.

I think what impressed me the most was seeing him go from right to left tackle in the middle of the Texas game. While his footwork and drop back wasn’t as smooth, on the left as the right, he still looked comfortable. It’s one thing to do it from one week to another, when you actually have time to prepare. To do it from one play to another, mid-game, is completely different. This is great for Mitchell because small schools guys typically have to show that versatility to help them break into the league.

Max Mitchell Weaknesses

  • Plays a little top heavy

2022 NFL Draft Report Louisiana Rajin' Cajun Offensive Tackle Prospect Senior Bowl Max Mitchell ReportThis was the only thing that I feel like Max needs to improve on. There were times where he would let his shoulders get a little bit too far out in front. This causes him to lose his center of balance. Defenders would take advantage of this. They would use a rip move, cause Mitchell off his spot and beat him. I saw it in both run blocking as well as pass blocking. I don’t think that this is a huge concern, as a good NFL line coach will fix that during camp. But when you’re trying to find slight differences in players readiness, every little thing matters.

Draft Thoughts

As far as offensive lineman go, Mitchell is one of my favorite prospects I’ve watched so far. I’ll be excited to see him compete against top level talent in the upcoming Senior Bowl. We’ll also get one last chance to see him in game action during the New Orleans Bowl. In regards to the 2022 NFL draft, I definately think that we’ll hear Max’s name called. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was off the board by the end of Day 2 personally. He’s got too many traits that I think NFL teams would love. I think that he’s talented enough that he could start his rookie season. But he would also provide a strong depth piece as a swing tackle for a team who’s starting line is already pretty strong. I know I’m hoping my team finds a way to grab him.
