Luke Goedeke Strengths

  • Grinder
  • Great footwork with run blocking

2022 NFL Draft Prospect Report Central Michigan Chippewas Right Tackle Luke GoedekeGoedeke is the type of player that defensive players aren’t going to enjoy playing against. He’s going to take his blocks all the way to the whistle. And maybe a little afterwards. As long as the ball is in play, he’s going to be working. It’s the type of play that just grinds on you throughout a game, and eventually wears you down physically and mentally.

What was really impressive was watching his footwork while run blocking. He was so smooth getting out of his stance. He had no issue navigating high traffic areas while pulling or trying to get up to the second level. If he was in-line blocking, he was able to gain position on the defender and wall them off from the running lane.

Luke Goedeke Weaknesses

  • Inconsistent pass blocking footwork
  • Not a ton of push with run blocking

2022 NFL Draft Prospect Report Central Michigan Chippewas Right Tackle Luke GoedekeWhile Luke’s footwork looked great while run blocking, passing blocking was a different story. There were times where he would stutter step coming out of his stance. At others he was actually step with his inside foot first. His dropback would get really choppy at times as well. Overall, he still held his own in pass protection, but getting there didn’t look pretty.

If he was playing left tackle this probably wouldn’t have really been a concern. However, as a right tackle you expect them to get some movement in run blocking. In fact, his teammates Bernhard Raimann, got better push in the run game as a left tackle. This is something that he’ll need to improve on, because I don’t see him as a left tackle in the NFL.

Draft Thoughts

The Chippewas were pretty fortunate to have two NFL Draft prospects bookending their offensive line. While Raimann is the better prospect of the two, Goedeke should still expect to hear his name called come draft time. However, I don’t think his time will come until Day 3. Based on their data, NFL Mock Draft Database seems to agree. They have a 5th round projection on Luke, as he’s ranked as the 142nd overall draft prospect. I think this seems like a fair projection. Luckily Goedeke will have a chance to improve that during his time at the Senior Bowl.
