Treylon Burks Strengths

  • Rare combination
  • Does a little bit of everything

Burks has a rare combination of strength, size, and speed that NFL teams have to be drooling over. He can go up and high point a ball. Never giving a smaller defender a chance to make a play on the ball. And while his straight-line speed is impressive, watching him navigate traffic is also crazy. A man his size shouldn’t be able to make the cuts that he does. Another scout said it best, “a big guy that moves like a small guy”.

On top of that, he does just about everything on the field. Catch? Yes. Jet motion? Yes. Run the ball out of the backfield? Well of course. Good blocker? Naturally. A bit like the Atlanta Falcons’ Cordarrelle Patterson, Burks is a Swiss Army knife that can do everything.

Treylon Burks Weaknesses

  • Random case of drops
  • Body language

For as good of a pass catcher as Burks is, he can get random cases of the drops. I’m not sure if it’s a concentration issue or what. But it’s something that NFL teams have to keep in consideration. Thankfully he’ll have a chance to show it isn’t an issue between his pro day and the combine.

Another concern is that his body language can give off a negative vibe when things aren’t going right. While we all get frustrated when things aren’t going well, it’s something you have to be aware of as a football player. You don’t what to look like you’re showing up your teammates based on the body language. Still, I haven’t heard anything but praise for Burks. So it doesn’t appear to be anything that affects his standing within the team.

Draft Thoughts

Treylon Burks is a first round talent. There’s no question about that. The key is where will he rank among the top wide receivers in this year’s draft. He’s in a group above the likes of South Alabama’s Jalen Tolbert. He’s in the group with Garrett Wilson, Drake London, and Jahan Dotson. I personally think that Burks is one of the top 2 or 3 receivers in the class.
