Matt Corral, QB – 2022 NFL Draft Report
Player: Matt Corral
School: Ole Miss Rebels
Height: 6’1″
Weight: 205 lbs
40 time: 4.8 (high school time)
Matt Corral Strengths
- Mobility
- Arm strength/accuracy
- Competitor
In terms of athleticism, Corral is only behind maybe Liberty’s Malik Willis. He’s fast in the open field, and shifty in close quarters. Matt has a cannon attached to his shoulder but still maintains his accuaracy all over the field. I like his competitiveness has well. He’s not afraid to get in there and mix it up with the defense. Whether that’s lowering his shoulder to gain an extra year or two, blocking, or just talking little trash.
Matt Corral Weaknesses
- Does it translate
Coming into the season, but biggest concern for Corral was his decision making. In 2020 you would see him trying to force throws that he had no business in attempting. In 2021 though, he’s cleaned that up. Now my only real concern is does his game translate to the NFL. This has become less and less of a concern in the recent past, as most college teams play the up-tempo style of offense now. For me it’s still a concern though. Can he go from counting on the sideline to make all the calls, do being the field general himself.
Draft Thoughts
When you’re looking at the 2022 NFL Draft quarterback class, the two names that are going to be at the top are Corral and Kenny Pickett. Some will say Corral is the #1 prospect, others will say it’s Pickett. Both prospects have all the tools needed to be a good quarterback in the NFL. But I give a slight nod over to Pickett because of his more prototypical NFL frame. Regardless, Corral is still the only other quarterback, other than Pickett, that I would give a first round grade to. And while he might not go in the top 10 due to the defensive talent, he’ll easily be a first round pick.
